MILAN ROUND TRIP

14 Days

The Alps and Dolomites, when seen through the eyes of a motorcyclist, translate to endless twisty roads with some of the most iconic mountain views in the world. You’ll be travelling through Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and France following parts of the Tour De France and Giro d’Italia bicycle race routes. You’ll taste Bavarian beer close to the castle that inspired Walt Disney before following the Napoleon Route, to reach the Mediterranean Sea on the French Riviera, to then re-enter into Italy’s Piedmont wine region. The trip is almost void of any highway stretches, favoring scenic and twisty roads, from day one.

ALPS & DOLOMITES (FULL TOUR) ITINERARY

Day 1 Treviglio (0 mi/0 km)

Arrival of the participants to Milan or Bergamo Airport and transfer by minibus / taxi to the hotel Briefing with our tour leader. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 Treviglio (145 mi/232 km)

Shuttle transfer to Eagle Rider Milan for motorcycles pick up and departure for Trento, the gateway for the Dolomites. After a quick first ride to get accustomed to the bikes and riding in the group, we visit the medieval Castle of Brescia before riding alongside Lake Garda, the largest lake in Norther Italy. It’s twisty lakeside road crosses a number of picturesque towns and offers gorgeous views. Exiting this area, we enter a valley of vineyards and we get the first glimpses of mountains and castles, as we enter the city of Trento to experience it’s unique foods and enjoy a well deserved rest after an eventful first day.

Day 3 Trento (138 mi/220.8 km)

We leave Trento and we enter the Dolomites section of the Alps. In this first day we head for Cortina d’Ampezzo, a gorgeous ski resort often defined as the “pearl of the Dolomites”. Plenty of options to stop and take in the views at the top of the mountain passes, while riding through multiple National Parks. It’s hard to describe what you’ll see in words, but in essence it’s exactly how you’d expect it, just better and with great roads!!!

Day 4 Cortina d’Ampezzo (138 mi/220.8 km)

Today we continue our trip in the heart of the Dolomites and cross the Italian and Austrian boarder. Lunch will be had in the highest Motorcycle Museum in the world (great food, killer view) shortly after entering Austria, and we slowly descend on twisty roads towards the very typical Austrian hotel and restaurant where we’ll stay for the night.

Day 5 Nassereith (151 mi/241.6 km)

We start the day heading towards Germany, in the Bavarian region. We go and visit the Neuschweinstein Castle, the creation of the mad King Ludwig II, whose drive to create a perfect castle left us with an awe inspiring architectural wonder, that is the inspiration for the shape of the Dinsey Castle and Bavaria’s main attraction. We have lunch and then start a wide turn to start heading back south, leaving Germany behind and entering Switzerland, stopping at the city of Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland and the capital of the Swiss canton of Grisons.

Day 6 Chur (95 mi/152 km)

We leave Chur and follow a mountain road that grazes dams and lakes, towards skiing resorts, that in Summer time become the grazing land for hikers and mountain-bikers. The roads are twisty, scenic and sheer riding pleasure. We’ll cross from the German to the Italian speaking side of Switzerland, we’ll exit the alps and stop at the natural pools of Lavertezzo, before returning on Italian soil at Lake Maggiore, where we’ll dine and rest for the day.

Day 7 Verbania (194 mi/310.4 km)

Today it’s all about lakes: we cross one, to ride along one, to get to another one! We cross lake Maggiore on a ferry to land on it’s Lombardy side and take a ride back into Switzerland where we’ll ride along the northern shore of Lake Lugano. A relatively short but very beautiful and scenic road that takes us straight to Lake Como where we are greeted by it’s villas and views. We ride along it’s western shore following the lakeside to ride through Como and then have a stop in Bellagio, the famous town with it’s elegant villas and cobble stone streets. From there we make our way back to Eagle Rider Milano to conclude the first part of the trip.

Day 8 Treviglio (0 mi/0 km)

Day off to spend time visiting to Milan. Alps & Dolmites Part 1 riders finish this morning. Alps & Dolmites Part 2 riders join the tour.

Day 9 Treviglio (171 mi/273.6 km)

As we leave Milan behind us we start heading north-west, to the south-west shore of Lake Maggiore where we’ll see the statue of San Carlo, whose construction methods inspired the Statue Of Liberty. A short twisty ride then gets us to Lake Orta and it’s magnificent medieval lake town, this is also where we’ll have lunch. Back on the road we cross a hill section that buffers between the flat land and the Alps to make our way towards Aosta, our stop for dinner and the night.

Day 10 Aosta (158 mi/252.8 km)

We leave Aosta and it’s castles nestled around it’s valley and start climbing up the Alps, on roads that separate Italy from France in an area know both for Winter Olimpics and Tour de France routes. We climb up and down mountain passes stopping for scenic photo opportunities and for our first lunch in France, before heading to the town and Castle of Vizille, close to Grenoble where we’ll stop for the day.

Day 11 Vizille (120 mi/192 km)

Today we have a small break in the morning to just have a slow start or to visit the Castle and park of Vizielle and also the museum of the French Revolution hosted insite od it’s grounds, then after lunch we start our descent towards the French Riviera and to do so we hit the famous “Route Napoleon”, the road that Napoleon crossed on his return from his exile. It’s a 200 mile long stretch of motorcycle nirvana that follows the countour of the alps as they tailor off to become flat lands. The result is a road that has few equals in the world as far as beauty and sheer riding pleasure. On the way we’ll stop and admire the Chapel of Saint Michel, a unique little chapel built on a small iland yards from the a lakeside, tryly beautiful. We then put some more miles under our belt to arrive to the hotel for dinner and rest.

Day 12 Station Montclar (158 mi/252.8 km)

We wake up in the mountains and soon get back on Route Napoleon to continue getting closer to the French Riviera. Views, corners, riding pleasure… Rinse and repeat! On our way to Cannes we’ll take a detour and visit che Gorges Du Verdon, a river canyon that offers breathtaking scenery and a great loop that allows us to see all of it and be entering Cannes just at about the right time to relax a little before stopping for the day.

Day 13 Cannes (168 mi/268.8 km)

We leave Cannes and follow the coastline of the French Riviera to ride through Antibes and Nice before we start climbing back on the Alps to re-enter Italy. In doing so, we follow the bottom of the Roya valley, another gorgeous piece of road carved by a river with it’s scenic vertical stone walls and views. We then cross the Tenda pass and enter Piemonte, the Italian region that Lonely Planet has voted the #1 place to visit in the world for 2019. We ride through the vineyards of Barolo, Barbaresco and Nebbiolo, crossing Alba (known for it’s expensive white truffles) into the region of Asti where we’ll stay in an Agriturismo where we can taste local cousine and wines before calling it a day.

Day 14 Isola d’Asti (160 mi/256 km)

Today we leave the hills of Piemonte and head to the home-stretch, and in doing so we cross the beautiful roads of the hilly region known as Colli Piacentini, close to Piacenza. It’s a scenic and tranquil route in another famous wine region of Italy that eventually leads us back to Milan for a proper send off!
