JOHANNESBURG TROUND TRIP

21 Days

Our longest tour and the best way to experience what you can see and do in 21 days riding in excess of 6,000 kilometres.

This ride traverses the achingly majestic South African landscape with it’s wide open spaces and ever changing scenery, offering up something new and diverse every day and at every turn. This tour touches on 8 of the country’s 9 provinces and visits the neighbouring countries of Swaziland and Lesotho. The two landlocked Kingdom’s coined ‘Switzerland in Africa’ and ‘The Roof of Africa’ respectively, both have amazing mountain scenery and riding whilst being totally different.

Wildlife viewing is always on the itinerary affording you the opportunity to share the Cape waters with Sharks when visiting ‘Shark Alley’. Big 5 game viewing will also be enjoyed with both iSimangaliso Wetlands National Park and Greater Kruger National Park being on the agenda. Whilst the riding will offer up amazing scenery and great roads on a daily basis.


PRE-TOUR DAY:

Fly into Johannesburg where you will be met and transferred to your hotel, The Johannesburg Lodge. There may be time enjoy the local sights. If you wish to arrive earlier, we can arrange accommodation and tours.


Day 01 Johannesburg to Clarens (Approx. 400km)

We collect our motorcycles and ride from Johannesburg to Clarens for lunch. Along the way we pass through Sasolburg, Reitzand and Bethlehem . After lunch we ride to the Golden Gate National Park then return to Clarens for our overnight stop.

Day 02 Clarens to Ladybrand (Approx. 410 km)

We start our ride and close the Lesotho Border then continue on to Katse Dam for lunch. After lunch another border at Ficksburg and ride to our last stop for the day, Ladybrand.

Day 03 Ladybrand to Graaff Reinet (Approx. 540 km)

A big day of riding. From Ladybrand we ride to Smithfield then Colesburg with lunch at Noupoort. After lunch we return to the road to ride to Middelburg then Graaff Reinet.

Day 04 Graaff Reinet to Klaarstroom (Approx. 300 km)

A detour before lunch as we leave Graaff Reinet to ride ‘the Valley of Desolation’ returning to Graaff-Reinet then lunch at Willowmore. After lunch we ride to our overnight stop of Klaarstroom.

Day 05 Klaarstroom to Barrydale (Approx. 300 km)

We ride out of Klaarstroom towards Oudtshoorn then Mossel Bay. We transverse the Tradouw Pass and finish our day in Barrydale

Day 06 Barrydale to Cape Town (Approx. 290 km)

From Barrydale we ride to Montagu, Robertson and Villiers with our lunch stop at Franschhoek. After lunch we continue on our way to Cape Town via Stellenbosch.

Day 07 Cape Town round trip (Approx. 140 km)

A day exploring the Peninsula as we ride through and as time allows stop at Simonstown, Cape Point, Chapmans Peak, Hout Bay and Camps Bay then we return to Cape Town.

Day 08 Cape Town to Gansbaai (Kleinbaa) (Approx. 210 km)

Cape Town – Gordon’s Bay – we ride to Hermanus and Stanford before arriving in Kleinbaa (Gansbaai), locally known as ‘Shark’ town’ in Gans Bay.

Day 09 Kleinbaai to Cape Agulhas (Approx. 130 km)

In the morning we have our Great White Shark Cage Dive then lunch we leave Kleinbaai and stop at Napier for coffee. The rest of the afternoon we ride to Struisbaai and on to Cape Agulhas, the most southern point in Africa.

Remember to stay inside the cage.

Day 10 Cape Agulhas to Storms River (Approx 550 km)

We leave Cape Agulhas and ride for our lunch stop at George. Along the way we pass through Swellendam, Barrydale and Oudtshoorn. We return to the road and take ‘the Garden Route’ to today’s destination Storms River.

Day 11 Storms River (Approx. 40 km)

We call it a rest day, but it will be an opportunity to do a Tsitsikamma Forest Canopy Tour and / or a Storms River Mouth viewing. These activities are as per your personal preferences. Keep busy as we are staying here tonight.

Day 12 Storms River to Hogsback (Approx 430 km)

Leaving Storms River refreshed after a free day we travel to Port Elizabeth then to Grahamstown for lunch. After we ride through Fort Beaufort, Alice and Hogsback for our overnight stop,

Day 13 Hogsback to Port St Johns (Approx. 400 km)

After our overnight in Hogsback we ride to King Williamstown then Kei River with a lunch stop at Qunu. After we head for our next night’s accommodation at Port St Johns travelling via Mthatha.

Day 14 Port St John to Oribi Gorge (Approx. 300 km)

Leaving Port St John we travel through Flagstaff in time for lunch at Ingeli Forest Lodge. After lunch we set out for Oribi Gorge Reserve and our overnight accommodation

Day 15 Oribi Gorge to St Lucia (Approx. 380 km)

We leave Oribi Gorge and travel to Port Shepstone, from there to Umkomaas and on to our lunch stop at Umhlanga. After we travel through Ballito and Mtubatuba to our destination for today, St Lucia.

Day 16 St Lucia, Rest Day (Approx. 0 km)

Today we take a Game Drive through the iSimangaliso Wetlands National Park.

Day 17 St Lucia to Izulwini Valley (Approx. 375 km)

Refreshed after as day off the bikes, we leave St Lucia and travel to the Swaziland Border at Lavumisa. From here we continue to our lunch stop at Hluti. We return to the road and head for Nhlangano then on to our stop for tonight, the Izulwini Valley

Day 18 Izulwini Valley to Hazyview (Approx. 275 km)

The ride for today begins in the Izulwini Valley, from here we climb to Piggs Peak and onto the South African Border at Jeppe’s Reef. The next stop is White River then on to our day’s destination of Hazyview.

Day 19 Kruger National Park Game (Approx. 0 km)

Today we go hunting with our cameras for the Big 5 as we take our Kruger National Park Game Drive

Not one of the big 5 but you knew that.

Day 20 Hazyview to Graskop (Approx. 250 km)

We return to our motorcycles after a full day in the Game Park. We leave Hazyview and ride on to Graskop, God’s Window and Blyde Canyon with lunch at Pilgrim’s Rest. After lunch we travel to Sabie from here we go to White River and Sudwala Caves ending our day’s ride at Long Tom Pass for our overnight stop

Day 21 Long Tom Pass to Johannesburg (Approx. 330 km)

Our last day riding as today we return to Johannesburg. We start from Long Tom Pass to Lydenburg then lunch at Dullstroom. After lunch the home stretch via Belfast and Witbank finally reaching Johannesburg by mid-afternoon.

We return the motorcycles to the depot then if you are not staying over transfers to the airport.
