Welcome to The Ultimate Nevada Road Trip, one of the Elite Series by Ride The World Motorcycles Tours. This tour has mountain passes, desert crossings, majestic scenery, alien encounters (personal ones not guaranteed), and ghost towns. And that’s all before we visit the breathtaking Grand Canyon and ride part of historic Route 66. Did we mention Las Vegas?
The Ride, The World Motorcycle Tours team, has put together what we consider the Ultimate Nevada Road Trip. It’s so good; we’re even travelling on it.

The Ultimate Nevada Road Trip Itinerary.
Day 1: Las Vegas Arrival. 0 miles / 0 kms
After arriving at Las Vegas McCarren International Airport, you will transfer to The Linq Hotel and Casino, where we will stay for the next two nights. The rest of today is an opportunity to rest or explore what Las Vegas has to offer.
Our overnight accommodation is at The Linq Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, NV; being centrally located on ‘The Strip’, there are lots of activity nearby. The monorail station at the rear of the property provides easy access to hotels and casinos from MGM Grand to the Sahara. Across the road is Caesars Palace, and one block south at the back of the Aria Hotel is the Aria Express monorail giving easy access between Aria and Mandalay Bay.
Day 2: Pick up your Motorcycle, ride, and then it’s Welcome Dinner time. 115 miles / 185 kms
Let’s hit the road and then The Strip.
This morning is free for you to do, whether more resting or exploring.
This afternoon we will all meet for a casual lunch, during which we will do the ‘paperwork’. You also get to meet your fellow travellers.
With lunch and the paperwork done, we will head out to pick up our motorcycles and ride to Red Rock Canyon.
When we return to Las Vegas, we will ride down ‘The Strip’ before arriving back at our hotel.
This evening is our Welcome Dinner, where we will have a chance to know each other better.

Day 3: Valley of Fire and The Great Basin Highway. 340 miles / 550 kms
Was that an Alien?
After breakfast, we ride out of town and will not be returning for many days this time. With Las Vegas in our rearview mirrors, we head into the surrounding hills and the Valley of Fire State Park. Remember to watch the road as we ride through the unique land formations. We will visit the Valley of Fire Visitor Center and travel, but it is time to look at some prehistoric petroglyphs and other displays.
Descending from the hills, we ride on the Great Basin Highway. Keep an eye out for extraterrestrial beings as we will be skirting ‘Area 51’.
To ensure we know what we are looking for, we will stop at Alien Research Center. Be warned; this may not be our last Alien encounter during the tour.
We return to the highway and head for our next two-day stop, Ely.
Overnight at the Prospector Hotel and Casino Ely, Nevada. Meals – Nil.
Day 4: Lehman Caves & Wheeler Peak. 175 miles / 280 kms.
Away from the Highways.
Today is a day of contrasts. We head out of Ely and cut through the hills on our way to Lehman Caves, where we will enjoy a guided tour through the Gothic Palace, Music Room, and Lodge Room of the caves.
We then wind our way up through the hills through an ever-changing landscape to Wheeler Peak Campground. After taking in the views and enjoying a special picnic lunch in the woods, we go to the Great Basin Visitor Center. At the Visitor Center, we will pick up our ‘Passports’ which we will need for our expedition along the ‘Loneliest Road in America‘.
Back in Ely to prepare for tomorrow’s full day of riding and gathering.

Day 5: Ely to Fallon via ‘The Loneliest Road in America’. 260 miles / 420 kms.
Is this really the Loneliest Road in America?
There is much to see and do today as we ride along the less travelled road or at least ‘The Loneliest Road in America’, Nevada State Highway 50. The highway was described in 1986 by LIFE Magazine as the ‘Loneliest Road in America’. As we ride this road, we will discover that it might be lonely on the road, but the towns have lots to offer, and we have our group to keep us company. We don’t want to spoil the surprises, but some sights along the way are Stokes Castle, the Pony Express Route, the Shoe Tree and Sand Mountain. We will remind you to get your ‘NV HWY 50 Passports stamped at some stops. A great souvenir of this journey.
Our last stop for the day is Fallon. You may recognise the name as it has been the Naval Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun School) since 1996.

Day 6: Fallon to Carson City and onto Lake Tahoe, Nevada. 145 miles / 235 kms.
Loneliest Desert, Mountains and Water.
Dayton, home of Nevada’s first gold discovery, is our first stop today, where we will stop to get our ‘passport’ stamped before making our way to Carson City, as this is our last stop on America’s loneliest road.
But the day does not stop here; in another day of contrasts, we leave the desert behind as we travel around the shores of stunning Lake Tahoe. With crystal clear water encircled by towering alpine peaks, you will see why it is called the ‘Jewel of the Sierra Nevada’.
Today we get to practice our cornering skills as we enjoy some windy roads, with more to come the next day. After a southern loop, we arrive at Lake Tahoe.
After all that riding, we will have a treat for dinner.

Day 7: Lake Tahoe to Reno, Nevada. 230 Miles / 370 kms
The long and winding roads.
After our practice yesterday, it’s time for some winding roads as we head across the border into California with a stop in Auburn for a coffee. We return to Nevada with a stop in Tahoe City.
We then skirt Lake Tahoe and head for our stop for the next two nights in Reno.

Day 8: Reno, Nevada. 0 Miles / 0 kms
Time Out.
Having been so busy, this is a day to do what you want with places to explore: the impressive Riverwalk District, the quirky Mid-Town District and the Truckee River Arts District, or kick back by the hotel pool or hit the casinos.

Day 9: Free-Range Art Highway NV Highway 95. 335 miles / 540 kms
An Arty Highway with a spook end.
Nevada is full of talented artists with many art galleries. Today on Highway US-95, we have stops that are pretty much ‘out there’ metaphorically and literally. Heading south along the Free-Range Art Highway to Death Valley, we will encounter some fascinating and quirky things. The Hawthorne Ordnance Museum and the Car Forest at the Last Church and Goldfield are some of the highlights. Goldfield was once the biggest city in Nevada and home to Sheriff Vigil Earp.
Along the way, we will visit the not-so-funny Clown Motel, but you will have to be the judge of that.
Our last stop before today’s ride’s end is Rhyolite’s ghost town. The town has a fascinating history but is it haunted?
After Rhyolite, we will ride onto our final stop, Beatty. Our accommodation is located at the site of the historic Burro Inn Motel and near Death Valley National Park entrance. Once we are here, you will understand why.

Day 10: Beatty to Grand Canyon West. 266 miles / 428 kms
Meeting Aliens, maybe, and bikers, definitely.
How much can we fit into one day? From the desert to the hills with the hangouts of Aliens and Bikers. Ending at the giant hole in the ground, the Great Canyon
Following a brief stop at the Area 51 Alien Center to remind us that we have been skirting aliens’ territory for the past few days, we leave the Free-Range Art Highway and ride down Death Valley Drive.
We will have a coffee stop at Mountain Springs Saloon, where bikers from near and far have travelled since the 1950s.
After our coffee stop, we ride through the hills, skirting the edge of southern Las Vegas and head to our next stop at Hoover Dam. Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona.
We will stop at Burgers and Bullets to see some interesting Americana, you may be tempted to buy some.
From here we head for our overnight accommodation near the edge of the Grand Canyon.

Day 11: Grand Canyon West – Roadkill Cafe, Seligman 174 miles / 280 kms
That was a big hole in the ground.
We spend the morning exploring more of the West Grand Canyon. When we are ready, we will be on our way to travel along a great back road until we reach civilisation and turn east onto Interstate 40, also known as the Purple Heart Trail. Along the way, there is a lookout which is just a leg stretch. We leave Interstate 40 and turn onto Route 66 and onto the town of your overnight stop.
Seligman is a great place to explore, which makes it a great stop. See what you can discover.
Our overnight is at the Historic Route 66 Motel. Enjoy the great meals next door at the Roadkill Cafe. Remember their motto ‘you kill it, we grill it’.

Day 12: Roadkill Cafe, Seligman – El Travatore, Kingman AZ 86 miles / 138 kms
Our first day of kicks on Route 66.
There is too much to see today to just rush down the road. We will take our time to enjoy our stops.
Let’s start with breakfast.
It was only a short ride down Route 66 yesterday from i40 to Seligman. Today it’s all Route 66.
Our first stop is Grand Canyon Caverns. These are the largest dry caverns in the United States, located 200 to 300 feet below the surface and accessible via the exploration elevator. Located in the middle of 3,000,000 acres of the most unspoiled land left in the world, enjoy clean air, clear skies, open prairies, and a refreshing change of scenery from the urban world.
Next, the Hackberry General Store. This is so popular with tourists; you’ll be surprised where they are from, possibly even Australia!
We returned to the road and we arrive in Kingman with all its Route 66 connections and photo op galore.
We’ll stop at “Giganticus Headicus,” this is a giant, tiki-style head constructed in 2004 by area artist Gregg Arnold. The statue is 14 feet tall and crafted from cement, chicken wire, and styrofoam.
The next stop is Mike’s Route 66 Outpost & Saloon.
We have almost reached tonight’s accommodation at the El Travatore, Kingman but with the time we have, we can experience the Arizona Route 66 Museum and downtown Kingman.

Day 13: Kingman to Lake Havasu via Oatman. 160 miles / 260 kms
Another day of getting our kicks on Route 66.
Our first stop is the Route 66 Museum in Kingman. Once we have learned about the road we have been on, it’s time to travel along it some more.
The next stop is the rebuilt Cool Springs Gas Station photo ops and souvenirs; if you didn’t find them back in Kingman, you could not wait until Oatman.
We then journey back to the past in Oatman, the quirky town of Oatman – a must-visit place on Route 66. We will discover just how quirky this town is and meet some of the four-legged inhabitants.
The last ride stretch for the day takes us to our overnight accommodation at Lake Havasu. Just the place to relax after the day’s ride.

Day 14: Lake Havasu to Las Vegas. 185 miles / 298 kms
Our last day on the road together.
Sadly, today is our last day on the road, but we still have some miles to ride together.
We are heading back into Nevada but have another state line to cross to see the Borax Wagon in Needles, California.
Our lunch stop has us back in Nevada at the Laughlin River Lodge.
We are now homeward bound, and along the way, we have a photo opportunity at the Seven Magic Mountains. Not what you expect by their name.
It’s time to return the motorcycles and then transfer to our hotel to freshen up and prepare for our Farewell Dinner.

Time to say goodbye but not forever.
