Day 01: Missoula, MT – Coeur d’alene, ID (Ride time: 4h 28m – 256 mi/403 kms)
Your first day on the road and you are going to have a great start your your journey.
Polson is located at the southern end of Flathead Lake in northwestern Montana. Prior to non-Indian settlement in the early 19th century, the Flathead Lake region in northwest Montana was, for thousands of years, part of the region occupied by two major Salish-speaking Tribes – the Salish and the Pend d’Oreilles, and one band of the Kootenai Tribe.
The first non-Indian visitors to the Flathead Lake region were fur-traders who visited the area in the 1820’s. Increasing commerce in the region required better transportation, and both Flathead River and Flathead Lake offered a convenient way to ship goods.
Coeur d’Alene is a city in northwest Idaho. It’s known for water sports on Lake Coeur d’Alene, plus trails in the Canfield Mountain Natural Area and Coeur d’Alene National Forest. McEuen Park offers a grassy lawn and a trailhead for adjacent Tubbs Hill. The lakeside City Park & Beach includes picnic areas and a playground. The Museum of North Idaho traces the regional history, including the city’s former timber industry.

Day 02: Coeur d’alene, ID – Nez Percé, ID (Ride time: 3h 40m – 178 mi/286 kms)
The Nez Percé are an Indigenous people of the Plateau who are presumed to have lived on the Columbia River Plateau in the Pacific Northwest region for at least 11,500 years.

Day 03: Nezperce, ID – Boise, ID (Ride time: 4h 26m – 222 mi/356 kms)
McCall is named after its founder, Tom McCall, it is situated on the southern shore of Payette Lake, near the center of the Payette National Forest.
Boise is the capital city of Idaho. The Boise River Greenbelt is a series of tree-dotted trails and parks hugging the water’s edge. In an art deco building, downtown’s Boise Art Museum has contemporary works and an outdoor sculpture garden. The grand, sandstone Idaho State Capitol Building is nearby. The Old Idaho Penitentiary contains 19th-century prison cells and gallows, plus historic military weaponry.

Day 4: Boise, ID – Challis, ID (Ride time: 4h 3m – 189 mi/303 kms)
Idaho City was once the largest mining community in the Pacific Northwest during the gold rush about 150 years ago. It was even bigger than Portland, Oregon at the time with about 7,000 residents. Today, you can explore the remnants of the old western town as well as the picturesque Sawtooth Mountains.
Stanley, Fur trappers of the Hudson’s Bay Company discovered the Stanley Basin in the 1820s, but it was mostly avoided due to scarcity of beaver.
Challis was established by Alvah Challis in 1876. The town was originally developed as a supply depot for the mines and ranches in the area. By the late 1800s, Challis became home to a large number of sheepherders. By 1918, there were six times as many sheep as there were people in the entire Gem State.

Day 5: Challis, ID – Jackson, WY (Ride time: 4h 21m – 246 mi/395 km)
Mackay is an old mining town, nestled at the “Top of Idaho,” as their motto goes. Tucked beneath the state’s highest point, Borah Peak (12,662 ft.), the town of Mackay (5,891 ft.) has a rich Western history as deep as the Lost River Valley it calls home. Most of Mackay’s residents are as rugged as you’ll find in any Old West town, with good senses of humour, tough hides and deceptively soft hearts.
Acro, a small town in eastern Idaho, made history on July 17, 1955, after it became the first in the world to be powered solely through nuclear energy when the Borax-III reactor turned on at what is now the site of the Idaho National Laboratory.
The city of Rexburg was founded in March 1883 when an intrepid group of pioneers decided to settle along the banks of the Teton River. They had been sent by church leaders in Salt Lake City, under the direction of Thomas E. Ricks, to settle the Upper Snake River Valley. The new community, named Rexburg after their leader (Ricks being German for Rex or King) quickly attracted men and women eager to bring industry and civilization to the West
Driggs sits right in the middle of Teton Valley. Flanked by the Tetons on the east and the Big Holes on the west, Driggs sits out in the open. It’s 8 miles north of Victor and 32 miles from Jackson. If you are coming from Idaho Falls, travel north through Rexburg and then follow ID-33 into Driggs.
Located at the southern end of Teton County in Southern Idaho, Victor is your introduction to Teton Valley, the area known as the “quiet side of the Tetons”. Stop and enjoy the views.
Jackson is a town in Wyoming’s Jackson Hole valley. The Town Square features arches made of shed antlers from the nearby National Elk Refuge. The National Museum of Wildlife Art has works by Andy Warhol and Georgia O’Keeffe. North are the peaks of Grand Teton National Park, as well as the vast Yellowstone National Park.
