Motorcycle Riding in Tanzania

Tanzania-1024x975 Motorcycle Riding in Tanzania

Tanzania is a paradise for adventurous motorcyclists, offering a diverse mix of breathtaking landscapes, wildlife encounters, and remote dirt tracks that make for an unforgettable ride. Whether you’re exploring the vast Serengeti plains, climbing into the misty highlands of the Usambara Mountains, or cruising along the Indian Ocean coastline, Tanzania provides an unmatched sense of adventure. For those who love off-road riding and the thrill of discovery, this East African gem is a dream destination.

Why Ride in Tanzania?

Tanzania is one of Africaโ€™s most exciting motorcycle touring destinations, thanks to:

  • Epic Scenery โ€“ Ride through savannas, mountains, rainforests, and coastal roads, all in one trip.
  • Adventure Riding Paradise โ€“ Many roads are unpaved, making it a fantastic place for dual-sport and off-road riders.
  • Wildlife & Nature โ€“ Pass through national parks (where permitted) and spot elephants, giraffes, and zebras along the way.
  • Cultural Richness โ€“ Experience the warmth of Tanzaniaโ€™s people, visit Maasai villages, and explore the vibrant streets of cities like Arusha and Dar es Salaam.

What to Expect

  • A Mix of Road Conditions โ€“ Major highways are paved but often have potholes, while many rural roads are dirt or gravel.
  • Variable Weather โ€“ Tanzania has a tropical climate, with dry and rainy seasons that greatly affect road conditions.
  • Remote & Off-the-Beaten-Path Routes โ€“ Some areas have little traffic, making for peaceful but challenging rides.
  • Friendly Locals & Roadside Stops โ€“ Expect roadside markets, chai (tea) stalls, and plenty of chances to interact with welcoming Tanzanians.

Must-Ride Routes

  • Arusha to Serengeti โ€“ A stunning ride through Maasai country, with breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley and wildlife-rich savannas.
  • Lake Victoria Circuit โ€“ Explore Tanzaniaโ€™s western regions with scenic roads around Africaโ€™s largest lake.
  • The Usambara Mountains โ€“ Twist through lush green highlands and remote villages in one of Tanzaniaโ€™s most beautiful regions.
  • Southern Highlands Route โ€“ A mix of tarmac and dirt roads taking you through tea plantations, rolling hills, and charming towns.
  • Coastal Route to Bagamoyo & Zanzibar โ€“ Ride along the Indian Ocean, stopping at historical sites and catching a ferry to the famous island of Zanzibar.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Traffic & Road Hazards โ€“ Watch for unpredictable drivers, animals on the road, and changing road conditions.
  • Fuel Availability โ€“ Gas stations are common in towns but scarce in rural areasโ€”carry extra fuel if venturing far off the beaten path.
  • Weather Considerations โ€“ The rainy season (March-May & November) can turn dirt roads into muddy challenges.
  • Border Crossings & Permits โ€“ If planning a multi-country ride, check visa and vehicle permit requirements in advance.

Riding in Tanzania is not for the faint-hearted, but for those seeking adventure, stunning landscapes, and cultural immersion, itโ€™s one of the most rewarding motorcycle experiences in the world. Whether you’re tackling remote dirt tracks or cruising scenic highways, Tanzania promises a ride like no other.

  • Sheep on the Road! โ€“ Especially in rural areas, be on the lookout for livestock wandering onto the roads.

Why You Should Ride a Motorcycle in Argentina

Argentina is calling your name if you’re looking for the ultimate motorcycle adventure. Picture yourself riding across vast open plains, carving through the Andes mountains, and discovering remote places few have experienced. Argentinaโ€™s roads offer everything a rider could wantโ€”epic scenery, thrilling routes, and a sense of freedom thatโ€™s hard to match.

Hereโ€™s why Argentina should be your next destination on two wheels:

Ride the Legendary Ruta 40 Argentinaโ€™s Ruta 40 is a dream ride for any motorcyclist. Stretching more than 5,000 kilometres from the southern tip of Patagonia to the northern desert, this iconic road is one of the longest in the world. Riding Ruta 40, you’ll cross multiple climates and landscapesโ€”snow-capped mountains, wide-open pampas, deep valleys, and sparkling lakes. Itโ€™s the ultimate long-distance adventure, offering everything from smooth asphalt to challenging gravel roads, depending on the section. Riding Ruta 40 is like crossing an entire continent within a single country, and itโ€™s guaranteed to leave you with unforgettable memories.

Experience the Untamed Beauty of Patagonia Thereโ€™s no place quite like Patagonia, and exploring it by motorcycle takes the adventure to another level. Imagine riding past towering granite peaks, through vast windswept plains, and alongside turquoise glacial lakes. The landscapes are raw and dramatic, and the feeling of being in one of the most remote places on Earth is unbeatable. Youโ€™ll pass through stunning national parks like Los Glaciares, home to the famous Perito Moreno Glacier and Torres del Paine, just across the border in Chile. Patagonia is a place where the road seems endless and the adventure limitless.

Twist and Turn Through the Andes The Andes, South Americaโ€™s longest mountain range, runs along Argentinaโ€™s western edge, offering some of the most exhilarating rides youโ€™ll ever experience. Picture yourself leaning into hairpin turns as you climb high mountain passes with views that will take your breath away. In the north, near the border with Chile, you can ride through stunning Andean landscapes, where arid deserts meet jagged peaks, and towns like Mendozaโ€”famous for its wineโ€”offer a perfect place to relax after a thrilling day on the road.

Wide-Open Roads and a Sense of Freedom One of the best things about riding in Argentina is the sheer size and vastness of the country. Thereโ€™s a feeling of freedom you get on the wide-open roads, with the horizon stretching endlessly ahead of you. Whether riding through the expansive pampas or navigating remote routes in the far south, youโ€™ll often have the road all to yourself, with nothing but nature and your motorcycle for company. Itโ€™s the ride that lets you truly disconnect from the world and lose yourself in the journey.

Diverse Landscapes in Every Direction: Argentina is incredibly diverse, and every region has something unique to offer. In the north, you can explore the colourful landscapes of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, where red, purple, and orange mountains create an otherworldly backdrop. Ride through the lush wine regions of Mendoza and Salta, where you can stop to enjoy world-class wines and Argentine cuisine. In the south, Patagoniaโ€™s rugged wilderness and icy glaciers offer a completely different beauty. And along the Atlantic coast, youโ€™ll find windswept beaches and penguin colonies. In Argentina, every dayโ€™s ride brings a new and spectacular view.

Immerse Yourself in Argentine Culture. While the roads and landscapes are reason enough to ride through Argentina, the countryโ€™s culture adds another layer to the experience. Argentina is known for its passionโ€”whether in its love for tango, football, or food, youโ€™ll feel it in every town and city. Stop for a classic Argentine barbecue (asado), sip some of the finest Malbec in the world, or join in a lively conversation with locals who are always eager to share their stories. Whether you’re in the bustling streets of Buenos Aires or a quiet Patagonian village, you’ll experience a culture thatโ€™s as rich and diverse as the land itself.

Adventures Off the Beaten Path Argentina is perfect for riders who love to explore beyond the typical tourist routes. Whether itโ€™s venturing into the remote areas of northern Argentina or exploring Patagonia’s wild, lesser-known regions, there are countless hidden gems to discover. On a motorcycle, you can go where others canโ€™t find those remote spots that most travellers miss and genuinely connect with the land in a way only riding can offer.

Argentina is the perfect destination if you’re craving an adventure that combines wide-open roads, jaw-dropping scenery, and rich culture. Thereโ€™s no better way to experience the vast beauty and diversity of the country than on a motorcycle. Whether you want to tackle the legendary Ruta 40, ride through the Andes, or explore the wilds of Patagonia, Argentina offers an unforgettable journey for every rider.
